In Memory of John Brainerd Morgan

Detail of the American Cathedral in Paris door, Avenue George V, Paris 8e

My eyes were first caught by the blond wooden door and this lacy handle.
Then I paid attention to the lettering.
If my sources are good, John Brainerd Morgan was the pastor
of the American Church in Paris for forty years.

John Brainerd Morgan was the second rector of the American Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity in Paris from 1873-1912. A high church advocate, he was singularly responsible for the construction of this gothic revival monument, which was designed by George Edmund Street, and consacrated in 1886.
